Safeguarding Policy

Purpose
CutoutCrime exists to help young people, parents, victims, and communities prevent and address knife crime. We are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for anyone who engages with us.

1. Our safeguarding commitment

We take safeguarding seriously and aim to protect children, young people, and vulnerable adults from harm. While we are a developing organisation, we are putting measures in place to:

  • Treat all information shared with us sensitively and respectfully.

  • Act promptly if we believe someone is at risk of harm.

  • Provide clear signposting to emergency services and established support agencies.

  • Build partnerships with safeguarding-trained professionals as we grow.

2. Current limitations

At present:

  • CutoutCrime is led by Olatunji, who has lived experience of the issues we address. This background informs the advice and insight we provide, but it also means we are not currently in a position to work directly with under-18s without a parent or carer present.

  • We do not yet have formal safeguarding accreditation or DBS checks in place, although these are planned as part of our future development.

  • We cannot act as an emergency service or replace statutory agencies.

3. What we do if there is a safeguarding concern

If we believe someone is at risk of serious harm, we will:

  1. Encourage immediate contact with emergency services (999 in the UK).

  2. Signpost to appropriate organisations such as Childline, Victim Support, or other local safeguarding agencies.

  3. With consent, assist in connecting you to those services.

  4. In exceptional cases, share information with the relevant authorities without consent if there is an immediate risk of serious harm.

4. Scope of our work

  • We currently offer information, resources, and 1:1 discussions for parents, carers, young people (with a responsible adult present if under 18), and community members.

  • All 1:1 sessions take place in safe, agreed locations or via secure online calls.

5. Safeguarding contact

If you have concerns about someone’s safety, email support@cutoutcrime.co.uk. We aim to respond promptly, but if it’s urgent, call 999.

6. Policy review

This policy will be reviewed every 6 months, or sooner if our safeguarding capacity changes, for example, when DBS checks and safeguarding-trained team members are in place.
