For Young People

If You Feel Under Pressure

Carrying a knife or getting involved in crime might look like a way to protect yourself, gain respect, or make money. The truth is, it makes you more likely to get hurt, arrested, or pulled deeper into situations you don’t want.

You have options, and you don’t have to face this alone.

The Truth About Carrying a Knife

  • Myth: A knife keeps you safe.
Truth: You’re more likely to be hurt with your own knife.

  • Myth: Everyone is carrying.
Truth: Most young people don’t carry knives.

  • Myth: It’ll give you respect.
Truth: It can cost you your future, freedom, and relationships.

If You Feel Pressured

  • Trust your gut. If something feels wrong, it probably is.

  • It’s OK to say no. Walking away doesn’t make you weak; it makes you smart.

  • Have an excuse ready. “I can’t, I’ve got to be somewhere”, or “I’m not getting involved”, is enough.

  • Know your safe people. Friends, family, teachers, or mentors you can call.

Your Rights & The Law

  • Carrying a knife without a good reason is illegal.

  • Being caught can mean arrest, a criminal record, or even prison, even if you never used it.

  • You can get in trouble for holding a knife for someone else.

Ways Out

  • Talk to someone. A teacher, parent, youth worker, or us.

  • Find other options. Sports, training, jobs, or creative projects.

  • Make a safety plan. Know who to call, where to go, and what to do if you feel unsafe.
